Hey y’all! Needed to write this morning…I am having a rough time today. Well pretty much this whole week. I honestly didn’t think it would be this hard. But WOW! It is. The mail has been delayed weeks this month, so for everyone who has told me they dropped something in the mail to me in the last few weeks, I am keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll get it soon. I see the Mail Call email come out and am let down when my name isn’t on it. Funny, kind of. I can email, instant message and call people all I want. But man is it great to get something in the USPS mail! LOL
So what does one do when she is feeling down and not quite sure where to turn? She turns to her peeps! That’s you guys! And writing to you somehow makes me feel better. Even though today it just makes me miss you more. But I know you are there. So that does help.
My boss is out of town this week and has left me in charge. That is bringing new challenges into my days. But I can handle it. You know me! And the softball tournament has been a blast. We are down to 4 teams – 2 games tonight and then the Championship Game tomorrow night. Some of the teams take things way too seriously, but for the most part everyone just wants to have fun out there. And I am loving watching them banter back and forth with each other. Especially the 2 Japanese teams! They are a riot! They seriously just want to have fun out there. And even though they are bantering in Japanese, we all still find it funny! So we’ll see who wins this event. PAE was out the first game, single elimination. They were crushed – 26-4.
Other than that, I am taking Christmas Day off from work. I have the Jingle Bell 5K to run at 0700. Then I am going to do a ride-a-long with the Fire Department on the Ambulance for several hours. I CANNOT WAIT to do that! I have missed my EMT time. So this should be a great opportunity for me. And will hopefully keep me busy for part of the day. I also decided instead of Spring cleaning this year, I was going to do Christmas cleaning. I need to send some stuff back home. My little Metal Condo is starting to look cluttered. I have ordered too many books, need to send my winter clothes back home that I had shipped here for my trip to Italy, and just some other odds and ends. It’s too hard to be so cluttered in such a little space! And since I had the desk put in there that just makes it worse. The Christmas Feast starts at 1600. So hoping to eat earlier for Christmas than I did for Thanksgiving. And BINGO starts at 1900. Sure hope I win something this time! But I’ll never stop trying! A girl has to be able to win at least once at BINGO! J After BINGO I hope to video chat and/or speak to everyone in my family. So see…a full day planned! That should be good.
And I think I mentioned on Sunday, Dec. 26, I am taking the top 3 Brass of the base out to see the Whale Sharks and to do a dive. We are heading off Camp at 0700 and jumping onboard the Juliet. The Juliet is a smaller and much faster boat than the one I usually go out on. This will be good – it means the bigwigs can be back earlier in the event something comes up (rumor has it we have some VIPs coming in on Sunday to provide us with some Comedy – I’ll let you know who it is once I find out). I find it hard to believe, but they haven’t had much opportunity to take Liberty off base. So I am sure they are looking forward to being out and to seeing this once in a lifetime chance passing through of the Whale Sharks. I’ll post some pictures once I get a release signed by them! LOL Here is a shot of Capt. Banaji and I at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony last week.
New Year’s Eve they are having a Black and White party. Wish I had known - I would have brought a nice dress to wear. But I do have a navy blue and white sundress here, so I guess that’ll have to do. And in the dark will anyone be able to tell it’s navy blue and not black? I wonder if they’ll have Champagne at the party? How can you celebrate NYE without Champagne? I’ll keep you posted.
So this is a short entry. Thanks for reading. I just needed to feel close to y’all…so here I am.
Sending out much love to my family back in VA, MD, PA, MI, and MO. They have been amazing support to me during my deployment here in Djibouti. I’ve almost hit the 3 month mark. So ¼ of the way through it. My siblings, nieces and nephews sent me gifts for the 25 Days of Christmas – a gift to open every day. It’s been great! My niece Elizabeth even parted with one of her beloved Barbie’s to complete one of the gifts – Barbie Living Room furniture Ravens Style! Here is a photo of that! I told them I only hoped that the sofa was a sleeper sofa – as I have no room for Barbie to sleep with me! Ha Ha
Anyway, thanks to all of you for keeping me in your thoughts and your hearts. It does help. I love and miss you all so much! Have a wonderful and joyous Holiday Season! And looking forward to see what 2011 has to offer us all!
Ciao!
